TRU folk singing group

About

Following an international tour of the USA, Canada and Switzerland in 2024, TRÚ will tour Ireland in winter 2025/26.

Their newest music has garnered acclaim, drawing comparisons to Gomez, The Beatles and "The Beach Boys on Whiskey" (RTÉ). Recent track "Norah" was playlisted by Nialler9, Chordblossom, and recommended by RTÉ Radio 1.

Despite a contemporary edge, the band's heritage is traditional. The trú was a mythological trio of poet-musicians in ancient Ulster. They were revered throughout Ireland, some believing their songs and stories came to them from the future. Others maintained that the trú were possessed by spirits during performance. As such, they were considered gatekeepers to the Otherworld.

From Gaelic Waulking songs and Scots lullabies to vengeful Japanese spirits and other mysterious characters, debut album 'No Fixed Abode' (shortlisted for BEST ALBUM at the Northern Ireland Music Prize 2021) drew inspiration from centuries of folklore in Ireland, Britain and beyond.

Their follow-up album 'Eternity Near' saw an expansion in the group's sound and appeal. Traditional track "Is fada liom uaim í" was shortlisted for BEST VIDEO at the Northern Ireland Music Prize 2024, where the LP was also longlisted for BEST ALBUM. TRÚ was also longlisted for BEST LIVE ACT.
