About
Come and enjoy a rare opportunity to visit Kirkistown Castle, a State Care monument set in a unique rural setting. Visitors are invited to explore the historic site at their own pace, discovering its design, history and the families who lived here through the centuries. Friendly volunteers will be on hand to offer additional insights throughout the day.
A special exhibition will showcase the design of the tower house, alongside information on other examples of tower house castles around Strangford Lough. Families can also enjoy hands-on craft activities in the bawn, making this a fun and engaging heritage experience for all ages.
As part of the “Centenary of Care,” marking 100 years since legislation was introduced to protect Northern Ireland’s historic monuments, the event highlights the importance of preserving places like Kirkistown for future generations. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this rarely open site.
Please note that, due to ongoing works, some areas of the castle may be inaccessible during your visit.
