Guided History Tour of Groomsport EHOD 2026

Cockle Row Cottages, Groomsport, County Down, BT19 6JR
Guided History Tour of Groomsport EHOD 2026

About

A guided tour of Groomsport explores the rich and varied history of the village, from the 17th to the 19th centuries. A key highlight is the voyage of the Eagle Wing, which sailed from Groomsport on 9 September 1636 in the first attempt by Ulster Scots settlers to emigrate to America.

This early transatlantic story forms a direct link to the USA250 commemorations. Philip Livingston, a signatory of the Declaration of Independence, was the great grandson of Rev. John Livingston, who sailed on the Eagle Wing. The tour includes significant historic buildings that bring this shared Ulster American heritage to life.
