Celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Donaghadee Parish Church—a remarkable milestone marked by a visit from the Primate of All Ireland to commemorate the quadricentennial of this important historic building.

Steeped in legend and history, there is a tradition that Saint Patrick himself marked out this site, while timber foundations uncovered during the construction of the Church Halls have been dated to 700AD. The church as we know it today began with a rebuilding by Sir Hugh Montgomery in 1626 during the Settlement of Ulster—marking the beginning of its 400-year story. The building has evolved over time, with additions and widening in 1833 and 1881.
Inside, visitors will discover a wealth of heritage, including the church clock installed in 1892 as a memorial to Ellen de Lacherois, and the family vault beneath the church. The walls hold many fascinating plaques and memorials, including a tribute to William David Kenny VC, Donaghadee’s Victoria Cross recipient from the Waziristan Campaign of 1920.
Today, Donaghadee Parish Church remains a vibrant Church of Ireland parish, continuing to serve its community while preserving a rich and fascinating past.
