About
Art, like nature, is never truly finished. It listens. It changes. It remembers. It returns.
Whispers in the Wetlands is an evolving, artist-led community artwork that returns to Castle Espie year after year, carrying with it the memories, creativity and stories of everyone who has contributed before.
Led by local artist Mrs Maker is Art, visitors of all ages are invited throughout the day to add their own quiet "whisper" to the canvas through drawing, colour, texture, fingerprints and simple mark-making. Every contribution, no matter how small, becomes part of a shared story inspired by the wetlands and the people who visit them.
Like the tide returning to the shore, the artwork migrates back to the wetlands each year, growing richer with every new layer of creativity. Each Shore Life celebration becomes another chapter in its journey, reflecting the changing seasons, wildlife and community that make Castle Espie such a special place.
This is not an artwork waiting to be completed. Instead, it is a living canvas that continues to gather, remember and listen, creating a unique record of connection between people, place and nature.
Drop in, leave your mark, and become part of a story that returns year after year.
This activity is one element of the wider Shorelife Celebration. Overall the event runs from 10am to 5pm with lots of free and pre-bookable activities to enjoy.
