The Emerald Isle Highland Dance Festival

Nendrum College, Darragh Road, Comber, Down, BT23 5BX
Highland Dancing Winners at the 2024 Festival

About

The event is organised by the Northern Ireland Highland Dance Association. This information has been submitted by a third party, please note, details are subject to change.

The Emerald Isle Highland Dance Festival will be held in Nendrum College, Comber, commencing at 10am on Saturday 26th July,

The programme will begin with an established competition, where we will welcome large numbers of dancers from all countries, age groups and abilities. The schedule will be split into several sessions with young dancers competing in the morning & senior dancers later in the afternoon.

The day will conclude with a Parade to Comber Square and a Choreography Showcase inviting dancers to perform with a set theme of music. This will be a unique, new experience for local Highland Dancers, as we encourage creativity beyond the usual, military-fashioned competitions seen in the past. This session will feature live musicians to add an extra flourish. The estimated time of this session is 3pm-6pm.

Events continue from 9am on Sunday 27th July, when Premier dancers will compete in the All-Ireland Confined Highland Dancing Championship and the Emerald Isle Open Highland Dancing Championship. Champion dancers are expected to travel from countries near and far.

Each session will be completed with a prize-giving ceremony, in which, every dancer will receive a commemorative recognition award. Some prizes will be local crafts and artwork to showcase local artists and landmarks to our overseas visitors. This will utilise the natural and cultural assets of the borough.

This event is organised by Northern Ireland Highland Dance Association and Grant Aided by Ards and North Down Borough Council's Tourism Department.
