About

Join us to celebrate seven incredible decades!

Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. In honour of the occasion, Bangor Seafront will come alive with activity on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June for Sea Bangor Celebrates the Platinum Jubilee, the long-standing event with a twist in honour of the occasion.

Welcoming Jean-Christophe Novelli MBE, from Novelli at City Quays

Excitement builds as we plan to welcome celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli MBE, from Novelli at City Quays, at Sea Bangor Celebrates the Platinum Jubilee on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June. Highlights will include top culinary tips from this multi-award-winning chef and answers to all your cookery questions.

Jean-Christophe Novelli MBE is a multi-Michelin star and 5/5 AA Rosette winning chef, author, and restaurateur who is known around the world for his amazing cooking artistry. It will be a great opportunity to gather some cooking tips and tricks from the best in the business while also celebrating food from the past 70 years.

The Platinum Pudding Competition

Calling all bakers to dust down their aprons and enter the Ards and North Down Platinum Pudding Competition!

The British pudding comes in all shapes and sizes, so you can decide if it is steamed, baked, rolled or layered. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating though, as our judging panel shortlists the puddings considered most fit for a queen.

There are top prizes up for grabs, including a KitchenAid food mixer, food blender and electric hand mixer. The overall winner will receive an invitation to the Big Jubilee Lunch at this year’s festival.

Fancy your chances? Pudding entries need to be delivered to Bangor reception of SERC on Friday 27 May, by 11.30am. Judging will take place that day with winners notified the following week. Entries must be accompanied by a copy of the recipe and the entrant’s contact details. Ts and Cs apply.

The winning Platinum Pudding will be available to purchase throughout each day of the event.

Celebrating and reflecting the seven decades of the Queen’s reign

Entertainment

There will be beach huts, a vintage funfair rides and the Platinum Palace ballroom, with a repertoire of music from the eras in Quay Street Car Park; not forgetting the Festival Bar, themed to reflect a 1950’s diner, complete with roller skating waiters!

Boom Studios will be providing a bucket full of fun for the kids in our Pop up beach, including arts and crafts, face painting and story telling. And, on each day, there will be Jubilee Cup Cake Decorating for the kids running all day long!

There will be Pop up bars, the Corgi Café, food and craft stalls lining the Eisenhower Pier with seating areas for visitors to sit and enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Along the Pier you will also find the demo kitchen featuring chefs from each of the decades, serving up iconic recipes including Coronation Chicken and lots of prawn cocktails!  Each of the chefs will recreate the classics of their era, and will feature ‘Desert Island Discs’, with their favourite music from the time. Click here for Demo Kitchen Programme

McKee Clock Arena will have a static display of vehicles reflecting the last 70 years of motoring.

Walkabout street theatre acts will provide even more fun and laughs throughout the weekend.

Jubilee Jukebox

The Pier will also be the location for a live interactive theatre production ‘Jubilee Jukebox’. The ‘Jubilee Jukebox’ will transform the pier into a journey through our living rooms, from the 1950s through to the 2020s. The audience will select the track from a collection of vinyls, CDs, tapes and downloads and watch the living Jukebox of musicians and actors play the tunes and bring the memorabilia of that decade to life. So whether you remember Bunty’s from the swinging sixties or GameBoys from the naughty nineties, there’ll be a track for you to pick and relive!
