The Fort was completed in 1907 and, at its heart, housed two massive 6-inch guns commanding the entrance to Belfast Lough. While a key part of the city’s coastal defences against naval attack, it proved of limited value during the German air raids of 1941.
Now in State Care, Grey Point Fort offers visitors a fascinating insight into Belfast’s military past, set within a striking coastal location. As part of the “Centenary of Care,” marking 100 years since the introduction of legislation to protect Northern Ireland’s historic monuments, the site highlights the ongoing work to care for and share these important places.
A member of staff will be present during your visit, and the fort can be explored at your own pace as you discover its history and significance.
