About
The Ulster Folk Museum is home to a rich collection of heritage buildings such as traditional dwellings, work places, shops and places of worship. The majority of buildings were moved from their original location and rebuilt on site as early as the 1960s and some of the buildings date as far back as the mid 1700s.
A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes in maintaining and conserving these important buildings which we now use to actively preserve and demonstrate traditions and the stories and skills passed down through many generations of people in Ulster.
For European Heritage Open Day, Join Katherine McClean, Built Heritage and Capital Projects Manager, for this very special guided walk around the site and hear about this important work and the challenges involved in looking after this unique collection of buildings.
On the walk you’ll see some fascinating examples of heritage building techniques such as thatching and lime parging, see some conservation work in action and get a glimpse into buildings that the public don’t normally get to access.
