About
This project has been researched and compiled by the Cadets from 2241 Regent House School Squadron RAFAC as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and as part of a shared history project, Cadets have researched the former pupils of Regent House School, local residents and our Polish friends who served in the Royal Air Force during World War Two and other conflicts. The Cadets have also looked at the present Royal Air Force Air Cadets in Newtownards including their experience as Cadets through subjects as diverse as Self Development, Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), Cyber, Flying and Community Service.
The Cadets focused on Flt Lt Aubery Doherty RAF, a former pupil of Regent House who was lost in the last days of War in Europe, Air Marshal Desmond Hughes from Donagadee, a night fighter pilot who went on to command the RAF College Cranwell where he supervised the future King Charles flying training, and Flight Sergeant Liz “Chinook Chick” McConaghy, former pupil of Regent House. Liz served on Chinook completing numerous tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In cooperation with shared history group “For Your Freedom and Ours”, the Cadets researched the history of the Polish Air Force based in Ards and North Down area. The Cadet have brought things up to date with their opportunities and experiences as RAF Cadets at Regent House School.
