Bigger & Better Coq & Bull Kitchen!

Since reopening after lockdown, the Coq & Bull team have been extra busy! To keep up with the ever-growing customer base and an increase in employees, Clandeboye Lodge expanded and renovated the Coq & Bull kitchen.

The safety and wellbeing of their employees is important to them, endorsed with new equipment, a fully integrated gas safety system that regulates fresh air intake with extraction fan speeds dependent on atmospheric conditions, and a fire suppression system. The result is a state of the art kitchen which complies with all legal and food safety requirements, and according to Colin Magill – Environmental Health Manager - Ards & North Down Borough Council, a “best in class” catering facility.

COVID safety is always Clandeboye Lodge's top priority. The spanking new kitchen extension with a prep section and starter and dessert pass, provides more space for staff to socially distance themselves from one another and protect them while in the workplace.

It was a natural decision to make sure that this project would also have a positive impact on their local environment and blend into our locality on the Clandeboye Lodge Estate. The roof of the kitchen extension is covered with a sedum blanket – sea hardened moss plants grown on the shores of the Irish Sea.

Their green roof has many environmental benefits:

Increases biodiversity by attracting wildlife and beneficial insects

Reduces energy costs by absorbing heat instead of attracting it which subsequently reduces our carbon footprint Improves air quality by absorbing CO2

Whilst Coq & Bull's menu remains shorter than normal for the time being due to COVID restrictions, they continue to work on menu development to deliver great, locally produced and seasonal dishes.
