1st September 2022
*EVENT POSTPONED*
On Saturday 10th of September Beyond Skin’s 100 Project Festival will be hosted at Mount Stewart. Running from 10am-4pm the event will be a celebration of female artists and artisans including music, talks, workshops and an artisan market all performed/hosted by women from all corners of the community. This festival is open for everyone to join, connect, learn and experience the array of cultures present in Northern Ireland.
The event is inspired by the creation of the ‘100 Book’ which contains 100 pages of unique art (poetry, stories, painting, photography, embroidery and more) created by 100 women in Northern Ireland, with the cover being designed by local artist Wilhelmina Peace. The book has been curated over the past year and centres on themes of belonging and connection to the earth in Northern Ireland. The book has already toured the 6 counties of Northern Ireland in collaboration with Libraries NI and been documented with PRONI. The array of events throughout the day will build up to the final planting and celebration of the book.
Kerry Anderson, Beyond Skin says “Creating this book has been an incredible journey with each woman weaving emotional and powerful stories into the book. I’m so excited to share the celebration with the public at the 100 Project Festival on 10th September. This is an incredibly unique and historic project and I hope that as many people in Northern Ireland get to view the book as possible before it is planted for 100 years!”
The 100 Project was created as part of Beyond Skin’s ‘Peace in Mind’ project. Peace In Mind is a wider programme of activities and projects using arts to explore our inner peace (mental health) and peaceful healthy communities. Beyond Skin is an intersectional arts collective building peace and social cohesion at home and beyond. Established in January 2004, it has always maintained that arts and music are an exceptional tool for overcoming barriers in our society and fostering connection, understanding and community. Beyond Skin encompasses a dynamic team of individuals passionate about encouraging positive social change.
“We are delighted to be working with our friends at Beyond Skin by hosting the 100 Project Festival on European Heritage Open day. It's shaping up to be a fantastic event for all the family, celebrating the work of these impressive women from across the community” says Hannah McCloy, Mount Stewart Visitor Operations and Experience Manager”. The 100 Project festival coincides with European Heritage Open Day at Mount Stewart where entry will be free to all visitors on the 10th September so as many people as possible are able to enjoy this special day.
