About

Part of the Experience Ards and North Down 2026/27 programme

Discover the remarkable linen heritage of the Crommelin family, whose influence was instrumental in shaping Northern Ireland’s celebrated textile story whilst enjoying a hands-on block printing workshop, creating your own beautifully crafted linen tea towel inspired by traditional textile craft.

Threads of History: Print Your Own Linen Tea Towel, invites visitors to enjoy a creative day on the Ards Peninsula. Set in the beautifully converted former Carrowdore schoolhouse, the experience begins with the story of the Crommelin family and their place in County Down’s linen heritage. Guests will then learn the traditional art of block printing and design their own linen tea towel to take home. No experience is needed, just a willingness to create and enjoy the process. Combining history, craftsmanship and hands-on making, this memorable workshop offers a unique glimpse into local heritage and a lasting handmade keepsake.
