Mark the beginning of the festive season in the City of Bangor — enjoy live music, Christmas cheer, and plenty of shopping to get you into the holiday spirit. Don’t forget to pick up your Christmas Passport (Saturday 22 November only, 1pm - 5pm - see details below), offering festive fun throughout the city with local businesses providing seasonal treats and surprises!

Christmas lights will go on at Bangor City Hall, Saturday at 6pm.

 

Please note, the following details are subject to change, and timings are indicative.

City Hall

City Hall will be the centre of *hot food stalls, bar and brass bands in the forecourt [free admission] and a merry atmosphere, with light installations available for the perfect family festive selfie!

North Down Museum

Just round the corner, the North Down Museum will be hosting its annual Made in AND: Pop-up Christmas Shop [free admission] which features handcrafted gifts and artwork made by over 20 talented local artists and crafters.

 

Translink Station | Translink Park and Ride Car Park [Abbey Street]

Down the hill, just a short distance away, opposite Translink Bus and Rail Station on Abbey Street, within the Translink Park and Ride car park, children can enjoy the activities of a fun fair, with school choirs and musical performances taking place over the weekend in the Translink Station.

Throughout the city

The popular City of Bangor Christmas Passport (Saturday 22 November only, 1pm - 5pm) returns, with a variety of local providers getting involved in the Christmas spirit with their seasonal treats and activities for the little ones. Passports are free and can be obtained from any of the various participants.

The Old Market House Bangor in the centre of the city will also be hosting Santa with opportunities to create a letter to Santa, and festive enjoyment for all.

Public Transport | The nearest rail and bus station is Bangor, located in the City Centre, a short walk up an incline will take you to the City Hall, Castle Park, where the market will take place. By car | Do you plan to drive to the event?  Allow plenty of time for your journey. If you are travelling by car, follow directional road signs to Bangor City Centre and check out what car parking is available in the city (free and charged).

To facilitate the Funfair Bangor Park and Ride, Abbey Street will close:

Bangor Park and Ride | 4 Abbey St, Bangor BT16 1JS | Closed Thursday 20 November at 6pm and reopens Sunday 23 November at midnight.

Event site | Useful information

Information Point | Located at City Hall forecourt.

Recycling | When disposing of rubbish please use the recycling stations when on-site. Please note, the usual waste bins on-site will not be in use during the event. Please help us continue our sustainability commitment to zero contamination at events by using the correct bin. There will be team members from Recycling on hand to provide advice and help you put your rubbish in the correct bin.

Accessibility | City Hall Forecourt – flat surfaces on hard concrete. Light installations at the front of the City Hall on gravel path by Christmas tree. Accessoloo will be in attendance, located in City Hall Forecourt. Accessoloo is a toilet facility for disabled people that has the right equipment, including Adult Changing Table, Ceiling Hoist, Lavatory, Grab Rails, Hot and Cold Running Water and Heating and Lighting. There will be two standard and two accessible portaloos situated at the forecourt at the City Hall.

Toilets | Public toilet sites will remain open at Castle Park, situated at lower car park of North Down Museum and at Abbey Street (in car park opposite Translink). 

First Aid | There will be a First Aid Point situated along Castle Park Avenue 

Lost children and Vulnerable adults | please pick up a wristband, which you can add a contact number to, at the Information point City Hall forecourt.

Dogs | We would advise dog owners that the areas with the outdoor event elements in City Hall grounds and Castle Park, it is anticipated it will be busy and noisy and recommend you do not bring your dog onto the site. If you do plan to attend with your dog, dogs should be kept on a short lead. Owners must clean up after their dogs and dispose of the waste in the appropriate bins.

 

Sustainability

Ards and North Down Borough Council is committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Please keep sustainability in mind when coming along to our events. We encourage visitors to travel via public transport. Please dispose of rubbish in the bins on site.
