Portaferry, Northern Ireland – June 2025 – One of the most anticipated events in the Irish Sea sailing calendar returns this July as the Narrows Series 2025 sets sail from 10th–13th July, kicking off with the infamous Bar Buoy Race – a thrilling spectacle as a fleet of over 150 boats charges out of Strangford Lough into the open sea.
Hosted in Portaferry, on the east shore of the Strangford Narrows, the four-day maritime celebration will showcase a packed schedule of sailing races, family activities, cultural showcases, and water-based adventures. Drawing crews from across the Lough, the Narrows Series has grown into a major fixture, backed by Ards and North Down Borough Council and the Department for Communities.
Portaferry’s proud shipbuilding and seafaring legacy. Once home to a thriving boatyard in the 1800s, Portaferry is internationally recognised today for its connection to the celebrated Ruffian class yachts, particularly the Ruffian 23, designed and built locally by brothers Billy and Dickie Brown.
A Spectacle On and Off the Water
The Narrows Series is more than a regatta it’s a festival for all. This year’s expanded programme includes:
