Bangor Marina has again received a Blue Flag award, one of the world's most recognised standards for water quality, safety, accessibility and environmental management in marinas.

Seaside Awards
Groomsport beach was one of four beaches in the Borough that retained its Seaside Award status, with Ballywalter South Beach, Cloughey Beach and Millisle Beach also retaining the award.
This award recognises these beaches as being clean, safe and well-managed.

Green Flag
Seven locations in Ards and North Down have achieved a Green Flag Award.
The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised certification for environmental quality management for parks and open spaces. While Cairn Wood and Clandeboye Cemetery have claimed their first Green Flag, other winning areas include Kiltonga Nature Reserve (Newtownards), Castle Park (Bangor), Ballymenoch Park (Holywood), Londonderry Park (Newtownards) and Linear Park (Bangor).

Making our Borough Sustainable

Ards and North Down Borough Council launched the AND Sustainable Giants - Green Tourism Network in 2022 to enable the Council, in partnership with local tourism providers, to promote sustainable tourism within the Borough.
The aim of the network is to make a giant difference in the area of green tourism in Ards and North Down by further developing sustainability and green practices within the local industry.
Group members are committed to sustainability and practice it in their everyday business. They work to enhance their own sustainability, create more opportunities and to further develop the green offering to visitors. The group also collaborates to create sustainable experiences, share best practice and promote the Borough as a sustainable tourism destination.
