Indie Fude is the independent food company that’s been building a gigantic reputation as a foodie destination for quality local products, with a massive focus on the ‘shop local’ ideology. Another feature of Indie Fude is its spotlight on the artisan makers who supply Indie Fude’s shelves.
Indie Fude’s roots are in farmers markets, where founding owner Johnny established relationships with makers and found out what customers wanted. A pop-up shop led to a permanent Comber high street food space and e-commerce web site. Laura joined Johnny as co-owner in 2018. They’re much sought after not only by customers, new producers and makers but now as judges for food awards in London, Dublin, Belfast and as far as Italy.
Laura and Johnny’s commitment to Irish food revolves around clusters of high-quality, sustainable producers and makers. There are many award winners amongst them. Some come to Indie Fude to test out their new products and to start their food making and distribution journey.
On the Indie Fude website, you’ll find the story behind 100% Irish cheeses, meats, snacks and more, alongside each of the makers. And championing all things local is extended to a commitment to the slow food movement.
Evening events and supper clubs introduce customers to their products and makers and encourage some creative tastings. It could be seafood from Strangford Lough with a local chef one day and gin tastings the next.
In addition to the sustainable and ethical focus, Indie Fude takes pride in tracking many products and ingredients from the field to the shop. Where food waste can be recycled, it goes to the local community garden to where flowers and vegetables grown in polytunnels and raised beds find their way back to the shop. Plastics are actively discouraged, with customers encouraged to bring in reusable containers (they get a discount) and beeswax paper used for wrapping.
Customers and makers are assured of Indie Fude’s commitment to sustainability and local quality.

The Green Tourism programme was funded by the Council’s Recycling Community Investment Fund - a scheme which is powered by the recycling efforts of local residents and businesses. Thanks to an increased amount of recycling by the local community, almost £15M has been saved in landfill costs since the programme’s inception. These savings have allowed the Council to create the RCIF which supports new and existing environmentally friendly initiatives.
