  1. Come along to Ballycopeland Windmill for a guided tour. See up close the original mill machinery and find out why this mill is of international significance and see recent conservation works!
    1. Our property is a Meeting House built in 1834 and is set in a rural setting equidistant from Kircubbin, Ballyhalbert and Ballywalter on the Ards Peninsula.  The building has remained largely untouched.
      1. Dating from 1852, Bangor Castle (the Town Hall) is home to North Down Museum. This beautiful stately home was once home to the Hon Robert Edward Ward – brother of the third Viscount of Bangor and High Sheriff of Down – and its elegant architecture is rendered in the Elizabethan-Jacobean Revival style.
        1. A church has stood on this spot from the Medieval period and over the years has grown and blossomed into the building that you will see on your visit.
          1. Grey Abbey is one of the best examples of Anglo-Norman Cistercian architecture in Ulster. Founded in 1193 by John De Courcy’s wife Affreca and dissolved in 1541. Grey Abbey volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions and provide information.
            1. Mount Stewart Garden
              Mount Stewart house has always been a ‘home’ for the Londonderry family, a place that has been touched by the various generations who have loved it.
              1. Portaferry Methodist Church
                Come and enjoy the history and heritage of Portaferry Methodist Church, the oldest still worshipping Methodist Church in Ireland.
                1. The walled Garden
                  Join us for a unique insight into the ongoing restoration of our Victorian Walled Garden built in 1886 by Belfast industrialist, Thomas Workman, a linen and cotton manufacturer. He built it to supply seasonal fruit and vegetables for his large household in nearby, Craigdarragh House, a beautiful Lanyon designed property.
                  1. Get ready for a fun-filled weekend by the sea, in the village of Groomsport with its traditional thatched, whitewashed Cottages. The cottages will be open for you to step back in time and see how the fishermen and their families lived. Join Discover Groomsport for a walking tours looking into the history of the village.
                    1. Discover Groomsport's tour of Groomsport covers the varied history of the village, including the voyage of the Eagle Wing on 9th September 1636 – the first attempt by Ulster-Scots folk to emigrate to America. The tour will include significant buildings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries.
                      1. entrance to Livingston Centre
                        It tells the transatlantic story of the Livingston family. Reverend John Livingston was the first Protestant rector of Killinchy in 1630. He was behind the building of the Eagle Wing, the first recorded attempted sailing between Ulster and America.
                        1. The Boys' Brigade Heritage Museum holds a vast range of Boys' Brigade archive materials including photographs, BB Memorabilia, together with displays of items of historical interest to the area where the Museum is located.
                          1. Portico, formerly Portaferry Presbyterian Church, is an outstanding Grade A listed, double-fronted, neoclassical temple dating from 1841.
                            1. The Meeting House built between 1838-1840, a traditional barn style structure. Six stained glass windows honouring the Andrews and Miller families, responsible for the establishment of the Congregation.

Follow the journey of what happens to your donations when they enter the national collections and join us for a curatorial led guided tour where you will be able to see our rich social history and vernacular collections.

Join us for a self-guided tour of these very special collections, including Rex McCandless innovations, historic bicycles, motorbikes, planes and boats including the rare Shorts Sealand. The combination of our fascinating range of objects and an opportunity to go behind the scenes at National Museums Northern Ireland is an opportunity not to be missed.
