About

***EVENT CANCELLED*** UPDATED 26th Nov 2021

Very regretfully, like a number of other events across Northern Ireland, we are having to cancel tomorrow's Christmas activities in Newtownards in their entirety because of the forecasted high winds.

We know this will be disappointing for participants, traders and those planning to attend on the day but we must prioritise the safety of staff and visitors.

We are working with our main partners to see if we can reschedule the event for another date. This is dependent on a number of factors including the availability of performers and traders, many of whom already have other commitments in the run-up to Christmas. We will advise further on this as soon as we have information to share.

A big thank you to all partners for their help over the past 24 hours as we have been weather watching and trying to make alternate plans.

Remember - businesses in Newtownards will be open and very ready to welcome you tomorrow if it is safe to travel. Ards Saturday Market will go ahead in Conway Square and roads through the town will be open.

Please keep an eye on this page and Ards and North Down Borough Council Facebook page for any further updates.

Christmas festivities get underway in Newtownards this Saturday, 27 November, with a full day of fabulous activities for all the family, running from 10am–6pm.

Santa will be joined by local culinary superstar Suzie Lee, winner of BBC's Best Home Cook 2020, and presenter of Suzie Lee Home Cook Heroes!

And the fun continues throughout December in the town with more creative shopping opportunities and a classic Panto to enjoy.

Markets and Music
The Christmas Market makes its return to the town on Saturday 27 November. Conway Square will be used as a stage on the day, hosting community performers throughout the event, from church groups, local schools and community groups. The community performers will entertain shoppers with music, dancing and more.

High Street will host the main market area, running through to Lower Mary Street, where shoppers can enjoy a taste of Ards and North Down. Chefs will be offering cooking demonstrations, with local artisan food and drink producers and services available to purchase in the market. This will include Ards Saturday Market, local artists and crafters – the ideal place to pick up some unique Christmas gifts and support local.

A family fun zone will be set up in the town, offering amusements and rides for the children, as well as a Santa’s Grotto in The Precinct, South Street.

It will be a full day of family fun, entertainment, shopping and of course, eating.

A free park and ride facility will also be put in place on the day, making it easier for shoppers to park just outside the town. The town has thrived through Covid and welcomed many new businesses.

Newtownards really does have it all this Christmas for you and the entire family.
