About Aaron Hawthorne
Aaron Hawthorne is a professional musician with a Master of Arts (with Honours) degree from the University of Glasgow. He frequently performs organ recitals, concerts and silent film accompaniments across the UK, Europe and the USA. He started his career as an organist in Motherwell Cathedral and was later the principal organist at St Bride's Roman Catholic Church, Cambuslang for five years. He is currently a house organist at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow.
Following his 2019 performance at the American Theatre Organ Society's annual convention in Rochester, New York, he won the international Young Theatre Organist competition. A few months later, he was awarded the Ian Sutherland Award by the Cinema Organ Society. He has served on various organ preservation committees, including the Cinema Organ Society and Scottish Cinema Organ Trust.
Aaron devotes much of his week to fulfilling the role of "Arts Development Officer" for North Lanarkshire Council, promoting accessible community arts.
He has now completed two UK+ silent film tours, with The Phantom of the Opera (1925) in 2021 and Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) in 2022. These performances have been critically acclaimed and the shows successfully engaged new audiences with the worlds of silent film and pipe organs.
