The Bangor Bell on display in North Down Museum in Bangor City

About

Part of the Columbanus Festival 24 - 26 November 2023, find out more about the festival here.

A festival of workshops, walks and talks will commemorate the life and legacy of Columbanus.

The theme of bells is chiming through this year's Columbanus Festival.  Monastic bells played an important role in early medieval times to call the monks to prayer or warn of impending danger.  Located in various venues in Bangor, the programme includes Bell Ringing, Bangor Bell Print Workshops, Monastic Bell Lecture, Bangor Bell Walk, Columbanus Cultural Evening and a Columbanus Church Service.

A cross-community, united Church Service to commemorate the life of Columbanus.   Representatives of Presbyterian, Catholic, Church of Ireland and Methodist churches will take part in the service.  Guest Speaker is Brother Thierry Marteaux OSB (Order of St Benedict), Holy Cross Abbey, Rostrevor

Everyone is welcome to attend this cross-community church service.  Pupils from St Columbanus College and Bangor Grammar School will provide music and song at the service.

To support those in need, church goers are invited to bring a Christmas food gift or grocery item.  These items will be collected by City Church Bangor and distributed to the Store House North Down.

Parking available in the ASDA car park or the public car parks opposite Bangor Station.

There is no need to book a place.

Everyone is most welcome.
