About
Calendar Girls by Tim Firth, based on the Miramax Motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Tim Firth.
The art of "fabulous concealment"
Based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed for an Alternative WI Calendar and raised over £5 million for the Leukaemia Research Fund this play "has since become the fastest selling play in British theatre history" (Samuel French).
It is a wonderful story of female camaraderie with 6 very different key characters coming together and falling apart but ultimately recognising that each has their place in this world. .....and that they're best together! By turns fun-filled and poignant this fast moving play continues to delight as the ladies who pose for the infamous Alternative WI Calendar test their resolve and their friendship in the face of fame while discovering "just how far a great idea can take you".
On nudity the author Tim Firth has his own advice for the players. Use the art of "fabulous concealment" in which as with "vaudevillian fan dances, the art of the play's nudity lies in what is withheld". Come along and see for yourself!
Bangor Drama Club are delighted too that the proceedings from Tuesday 8th November will go to the Friends of the Cancer Centre in recognition of all their work supporting patients, relatives and friends and staff at Belfast City Hospital. John would have approved........
Directed by Shirley Millar, with a cast of 14 and a backstage team marshalling an army of props, this is an event not to be missed.
