Old Gaffer Boats, traditional music & dance and street entertainment for all the family
Portaferry Sails & Sounds Festival organised by Portaferry Sailing Club and NIOGA to bring to the shores of Strangford Lough a combination of Old Traditional Boats display of rowing boats, junior sailing, ribs and international boat including 2 tall ships.
The festival has a youth training programme along with traditional Ulster Scots and Irish dance/music including a concert with the McPeakes and special guests. There are street markets, kids entertainment and competitions and this year helicopter rides over Strangford lough on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. The emergency services hope to deliver a land and sea rescue display incorporating RLNI, Coastguard.
This is a magical festival for all the family to witness spectacular boats, listen to live music kids join in on the fun and lots lots more for the whole family.
The festival has various venues for alternative weather events and majority of events go ahead regardless of weather.
Additional parking throughout the town and surrounding areas, all events are held in the town centre and within walking distance of 1 mile.
Numerous pubs with live entertainment each day, restaurants, fast food, shops various tourist attractions in the area and home to Exploris (NI's only Aquarium), Strangford Ferry (worlds longest running passenger ferry), Portaferry Castle, Kearney Village (BBC drama My Mother and Other Strangers), home game of Thrones Door and lots more.
