Portaferry Gala Festival is situated on the shores of Strangford Lough one of Northern Irelands top visitor destinations. The festival presents over 100 events for all the family, travellers, visitors and tourist @ the Portaferry Gala Festival and celebrating 50years this year we are offering some spectacular new events to mark the anniversary. The festival has grown over the years and demonstrates great community pride and support and the community welcomes everyone to come along to their unique family festival.
Portaferry Gala festival over 100 events 90% free of charge. The festival entering its 50th year and is one of Northern Irelands longest running community festivals organised and run completely by volunteers from the community.
The festival highlights opening extravaganza of festival with live band lots of kids activities, expansion of current event to a national level The Pitching the Sheaf Competition, live band Ritchie Remo, from kids fancy dress to open air boxing, comedy play, live radio, youth challenge and Xbox event, paper boat race, live wrestling, 10 mile run, tea dance for seniors and main highlight of the week annual float parade display of fabulous floats and other carnival entertainment.
The festival has various venues for alternative weather events and majority of events go ahead regardless of weather. Additional parking throughout the town and surrounding areas, all events are held in the town centre and within walking distance of 1 mile. Numerous pubs with live entertainment each day, restaurants, fast food, shops various tourist attractions in the area and home to Exploris (NI only Aquarium) Strangford Ferry (worlds longest running passenger ferry) Portaferry Castle, Kearney Village (BBC drama My Mother and Other Strangers, home game of Thrones Door and lots more also situated within a 30 mile radius of Titanic Centre, St Patrick’s Centre, Mourne Mountains etc National Trust Mount Stewart and Castleward, Scrabo, golf, horse riding, bike hire, bus tours, all information can be sourced online or call in to the local Visitors Information Centre in the town.
